DANCE
CLASSES |
BALLET – Intro, I and
II (Ages 6 - 13)
Classical ballet, taught in the Russian
Vagonova Technique with adagio stretch, allegro movements
utilizing the barre, center and across the floor. Focus
on building basic ballet vocabulary, proper technique,
proper positions of the feet and arms, and body alignment.
This class will break down the steps and provide students
with exercises that build strength, increase flexibility
and provide a foundation that can be applied to all dance
styles. (NOTE: Please be advised that it is normal for
a student to repeat the above levels before advancing
to Ballet III).
Tiny Tot Dance
(Ages
3 - 5)
Class will include gentle stretching and
strengthening, while learning the basic movement of ballet,
jazz, and tap (without tap shoes). One or two songs of
creative movement and props will be used. This allows
little ones to move freely while learning to feel the
beat of the music. This is an introduction class designed
for fun!
Hip Hop (Ages
12 - 18)
Exciting and fun choreography to contemporary
rhythms. Sharp movements avoiding inappropriate body moves
as used in secular circles. Although this represents the
style of dance known as hip hop, Instruments of Praise
will keep it God honoring.
Ballet / Lyrical
Expressing deep personal emotions of worship,
praise, and adoration through natural body movements along
with basic techniques of either ballet, modern, or jazz
while interpreting the lyrics or story of a song.
C.O.R.E.
Character Obtained to Reflect
Excellence is a component of each class. It is designed
to develop and strengthen the foundational character of
an artist. The C.O.R.E. curriculum is derived from biblical
principles, and is not doctrinal in nature.

INSTRUMENTAL
CLASSES |
If
you are new to music, a musician returning to your instrument,
or eager to take your skills to a higher level, this
is the place for you! To give the best training possible,
our program consists of four parts:
Private
Instruction:
One-on-one individual time with an instructor.
Most programs, with the exception of the drumming program,
consist Instruction: of a 30 minute private lesson in
addition to the components listed below. Instrumental
lessons at the Lincoln facility are 45 minutes in length
in order to individually incorporate these components.
Theory:
This portion of the lesson reinforces
the musical principles necessary to acquire a comprehensive
knowledge of music.
C.O.R.E.
Character Obtained to Reflect
Excellence is designed to develop and strengthen the
foundational character of an artist. The C.O.R.E. curriculum
is derived from biblical principles, and is not doctrinal
in nature.
Lab:
This component provides a valuable opportunity
for students to play with others in a group setting.
However, unlike the traditional ensembles, Lab is centered
around a rhythm section, with each student being supported
as a player in the rhythm section or as a solo artist
with a rhythm section accompaniment. Students begin
to learn basic improvisational techniques and how to
“feel” the music. All Instrumentalists are
scheduled to attend at least one Music Lab per month.
Drum
Central / STIXX
New to IOP is Drum Central.. Instruction
includes training for (1) drumline, (2) set, and (3)
percussion Students are taught the discipline of precision,
along with the progressiveness of cutting edge drumming.
The drum program also includes C.O.R.E., individual/group
studies, and drilled rudiments that are actually fun.

Ensembles:
Ensembles include flute choir, saxophone
quartet, guitar duets, praise band, etc.
Orchestra:
The orchestra is comprised of intermediate
and advanced students enrolled in the program.
Curriculum:
Curriculums are comprised for each individual
instrument and is made up of a combination of teacher
resources and experience along with the general standards
from the Music Teacher’s Association. The IOP
Curriculum also includes Christian literature and compositions.

VOCAL
CLASSES |
VOCAL
ARTS CLASS:
The fundamental components include: (1)
Vocal Technique Coaching, (2) Harmony, and (3) Piano Theory
for vocalists. The selected songs include contemporary
and traditional. Students enrolled in vocal arts will
also develop a solo repertoire, learn to sing with tracks,
and practice once a month with a rhythm section lab.
VOCAL ENRICHMENT CLASS:
This class includes: (1) Music appreciation
with languages from around the world (2) Vocal intonation,
and (3) Creative choreography. It emphasizes the fun of
singing beautiful music that comes from the heart, while
learning basic etiquette for the young performer.
VOCAL ARTS WORKSHOP:
This 6 week vocal coaching workshop focuses
on stage techniques including relaxation, memorization,
mic techniques, stage presence, improvisation, and exercises
to increase comfort levels. (NOTE: This workshop is for
adults and advanced students only).

and Fingers - 6 weeks of learning and
taking your playing to the next level. It’s a

will consist of advanced musical concepts for playing

Ashlea
Hayes
presents: American
Sign Language 101 – a 6 week
introductory into the deaf world. Instruction includes
learning the basic signs, etiquette, and a peak into
deaf culture. This class will lay a beginning foundation
for those who have a desire to communicate in sign
language for interpretation, worship and praise, or
dance. Ms. Hayes has been speaking sign language for
the past 14 years and is a graduate of El Camino College.
She’s excited about introducing the ‘hearing’
to the deaf community. |

Brian
L. Harvey presents: Gospel
from the Soul – a 6 week introductory
on the fundamentals of Gospel Music. This workshop will
examine technique through the study of hymns, traditional
and contemporary music including the process of “playing
by ear”. Throughout this course you will get a
glimpse of the role of the musician in the church setting
and in the choir, as well as the relationship between
the musician and the pastor. Mr. Harvey began playing
piano for his church at the age of fifteen. He has now
played for churches from the west coast to the east
coast and back again for over two decades. He has performed
in a variety of venues, with a background in classical
training for piano performance as well as vocal performance. |

noted musician of multiple gifts, Regina
Flowers presents: Introduction
to Music Notation. A 6 week course designed
for adults and youth on how to notate music. Participants
will gain full knowledge and technique of notating music
utilizing the Finale program. Participants will be able
to notate and print their compositions for copyright.
Basic knowledge of music is recommended for this workshop.
Ms. Flowers is noted in the areas of playing, directing,
composing, arranging, and notating music. She has served
as a great contributing leader in the music community
in diverse ways to promote positive changes in the lives
of people, as well as assisting organizations with their
music endeavors. |

extraordinary guitarist, Marcus
Gerakos, presents: “How
Does a Guitar Player Become a Complete Musician?”
An in-depth look at the five basic elements of music—melody,
harmony, rhythm, form, and sonority—as they relate
to various genres involving the guitar, as well as four
essential tools the guitarist needs to maximize his/her
talents: musical intellect, ear training, physical technique,
and the development of musical opinion. Mr. Gerakos is
well known for his work with such notables as Obie Bermudez,
Alex Acuna, and Luis Conte, and he lends his experience
and expertise to virtually any musical situation, from
flamenco to Latin jazz trio to blues, rock and beyond.
Marcus plays it all, with plenty of style and virtuosity.
He has made many musical contributions as a performer,
composer, producer, director and teacher. IOP is privileged
to have him heading the guitar department as he invests
his time and gifts in raising up the next generation of
Christian artists. |

issues faced by all artists: approaching the work place,

Jazz Festivals and History of Jazz Workshops. He also

Anderson, an alumnae of the African American
Performing Arts Center in Boston, MA, the Music Arts Center
in Cincinnati, OH, and San Francisco State University,
presents: The Vocal
Performance Workshop. This 6 week course
teaches vocalists how to relax and focus their energy
in performance. Instruction includes stage movement, projection,
mic technique, and improvisation, along with warm-up exercises
to increase comfort levels. Participants also receive
individual coaching and constructive critique to polish
solo selections. |
